Property information in Scotland is managed differently from England and Wales, which is why ownership type details aren’t included.
In England & Wales, the Land Registry provides “Tenure” information (Freehold/Leasehold/Other) as part of the Title Register dataset, which most platforms rely on.
In Scotland, however, the system is managed by Registers of Scotland (RoS). Scottish property law doesn’t use the same Freehold/Leasehold framework. Instead, almost all land ownership is essentially outright ownership (similar to Freehold). Leasehold ownership in Scotland was abolished in 2004, so leases are generally just long-term rental agreements, not a separate “ownership type” like in England & Wales.
As a result, there’s no equivalent “ownership type” field for Scottish titles that we can surface. What’s recorded instead are title ownership details (proprietor names, securities, burdens, etc.) but not a classification like “Freehold” vs “Leasehold.”
